Painting commissions is about painting heart.
 
The first step in seeking a commission, is telling me why.
 
Why is painting this moment important?
 
The reason being; my art is not about replicating an image with paint. It is about capturing a moment in time and the emotion behind this. 

 

For me, this is the singular most important step in the painting.

You can see these examples in all my paintings: the comforting way tree shadows fall across the road in late afternoon reminding me of a time that the flickering light would lull me to sleep in a car; the still quiet and glow of a late summer dusk following a busy Christmas day; the joy of sensory bathing in the Brindabellas surrounded by bird song, smell, flowers, trees, hills, blue sky and clouds.

 

I will be honest with you and tell you if I don't believe I can honour your vision, or that your reference photo is already perfect and painting it offers nothing further.    My approach to painting is founded on 'slow looking'—taking the time to understand the nuances of the landscape you would like captured, and the specific details that make it special.  This first step is what matters.
